On Wednesday 22nd June Oxford Cricket Club played host to the second annual OCB schools outdoor girls 8-a-side competition. Both the U13 and U15 competitions were run alongside each other, meaning 220 girls playing competitive cricket for the day. The standard was extremely high in both age groups with 14 teams competing in the U13’s and 8 teams in the U15’s. The standard of cricket for the day was very high, with all matches being played in a competitive but sporting spirit.
The U13 competition was a very tight event right the way through, with 3 teams in one group having to be separated by run rate. The final of the U13 was just as tight, with Chipping Norton setting a competitive total of 56 thanks to a last pair stand. Burford’s reply started off solidly but had a mid-innings wobble loosing 3 wickets in the space of 7 balls, but their last pair held their nerve and saw Burford home with 1 over to spare.
In the U15 competition the standard was very high with a number of club and county players representing their respective schools. The final was a repeat of last years with Bartholomew facing Warriner school. Warriner batted first and thanks to some lusty blows for six over square leg and mid-wicket set Bartholomew a tough target of 85 to win. Bartholomew got off to a flying start and got up above the run rate but in the middle overs Warriner started to get on top with regular wickets falling. Bartholomew were always up with the run rate but the Warriner bowling attack proved to strong and dismissing Bartholomew for 56.
Congratulations to both Burford and Bartholomew for winning their respective competitions. A full list of fixtures and results are attached for both the U13 and U15 competitions. |
