Districts & Schools & Festivals

Summary

Oxfordshire is split into five districts, identical to the local government district councils that make up the County. They are the City of Oxford, Cherwell, South Oxfordshire, West Oxfordshire and the Vale of the White Horse. Each district selects Under 13 and Under 15 representative teams that compete against the other sides in a series of matches during the Whit half term. Additionally, some districts select Under 11 sides to play friendly fixtures.
The district assessments are an important first stage in the process of selecting the county representative squads. Clubs and schools are asked to nominate their strongest players, who participate in outdoor trials at the end of the summer season. From these trials, a number of children are nominated for county assessments, and the next tier are selected for their district (they can qualify based on either their club, their school or their home). The district squads then complete a winter programme of coaching sessions, before competing in the half term festivals.
