Match of the Competition (so far!) Kingston Bagpuize beat Ox & Bletch Nondescripts by virtue of losing less wickets. Nondies 132 for 6 Sami Ullah 48no Mark Strong 30 Kingston 132 for 5 Dave Pearce 57no Martin Shepherd 54 Both innings started in a similar way, with both sides losing one of their openers early doors & struggling to score runs in their first 5 overs. However, stalwarts Andy Haynes (25) & Mark Strong (30) then started to score freely for the visitors & a late push from Sami Ullah (48no from 28 balls) took them to 132 for 6. Kingston then followed in similar fashion, when a 2nd wicket partnership of 84 between Dave Pearce (57no) & Martin Shepherd (54) made a close finish look inevitable. When Shepherd was out, Pearce continued to score alone, as 2 quick wickets fell at the other end, leaving the home side needing 8 runs off the last over. Pearce scored 7 of them but was then stranded at the non-striker's end as a wide off the 6th ball brought the scores level. Pearce & Paul Temple tried to scrabble the single required off the last ball but Temple was run out, leaving the scores level & Kingston winning by virtue of losing 1 wicket less. Fixtures
30/06/2011 Sorry for the radio silence. Eynsham have withdrawn from the competition, which at least gives us 2 equal groups (if less cricket). Results have slowly been filtering through - if you don't see one on the website you know has been played, please let me know. 08/08/2011 Shipton and Tew progress from Group A; still waiting on results from Group B. 24/08/2011 Aston Rowant have withdrawn from the competition as it clashes with their President's Day and were unable to agree a schedule to play their last game with Downs. That leaves Bagpuize and Nondies tied in second place, so by virtue of winning their head-to-head game, Kingston Bagpuize join Shipton, Great Tew and Oxford Downs in the Finals. Proposed schedule for Finals day on 28th 11:00 Oxford Downs vs Great & Little Tew 13:30 Shipton vs Kingston Bagpuize 16:00 Final I have some thoughts about the future format of this competition which I will email everyone about shortly to get some feedback. 27/08/2011 Both Great Tew and Oxford Downs have withdrawn from the Finals Day so it is Shipton vs Kingston Bagpuize in the Final at 13:30. Shipton Champions Once Again Thanks to both teams for making the effort; combined team photo below, scorecard to follow. |
