ContextOne of the key roles for County Boards is to support and facilitate the development of clubs. Our policy is to try and help all affiliated clubs where our resources allow. Th ECB see our priority as to 'focus' our resources on Focus Clubs and ClubMark clubs. Clubs affiliate to the OCB annually. For 2011 the cost of Club affiliation remains at £20.
What does the £20 affiliation fee enable clubs to get access to ?
- Access to the OCB Cricket Development Manager.
- Facilities - the OCB through the efforts of our Cricket Development Manager (Rupert Evans) have sourced £124k worth of funding for clubs over the last 3 years. In addition we have our own trailer of equipment which can be hired for a very small cost to avoid clubs having to finance their own under utilised assets.
- Coaching - the OCB through the Oxfordshire Coaches Association provides a comprehensive coach development programme. In 2010 we ran 3 UKCC Level 1 courses, 3 Level 2 courses and 1 Club Coach course. In addition 4 Cricket Young Leaders courses and 1 working in schools course was held.
- The development of the existing Coaches is also important and 6 workshops were held in 2010.
- Officials - the OCB through the Oxfordshire Officials Association held 2 umpires courses during 2010.
- Sky Sports Coaching Awards - 2 Oxfordshire coaches became regional winners of the prestigious awards.
- Nat West Oscas - Oxfordshire had nominees for 7 of the 8 categories in 2010 for these coveted awards; unfortunately non of our nominees were short listed. We will continue to focus on this in 2011.
- Nat west Cricket Force - encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community club by volunteering to undertake minor or major renovations to clubhouses and grounds. It is also a great opportunity for clubs to get cost reductions on their pre-season buildings and ground renovations.
- First Aid and Child Protection courses – these courses are mandatory for Clubmark clubs, they’re organised in partnership with OSP (County Sports Partnership).
- Chance to Shine - the OCB run 6 C2S programmes, the programme is aimed at making cricket sustainable in state schools and also provide exit routes for young cricketers from schools to join their local clubs.
- County Sports Partnership - Oxfordshire have a team of people to encourage a wide range of support. They are available to help clubs in multiple ways.
- V-cricket - a relatively new initiative to help Clubs source volunteers to help develop their club.
- Schools coaching and competition cricket. Clubs benefit from the interest this creates in the sport. Schools/Club links are nurtured and hopefully we continue to generate another generation of young cricketers.
- The OCB run a comprehensive set of Youth competitions. all affiliated clubs are invited to compete.
- At senior level the OCB run a 20 over evening competition called the Bernard Tollett OKO Cup. It is Bernard's legacy which funs the competition and makes it free to clubs. Additionally we have a 40+ 20/20 competition and an Indoor tournament which we are hoping will start up again in 2011.
- Recognition is an important part of what we do. At the end of the season we hold dinners to celebrate our achievements for all youth and senior age groups.
- Tours - many of our County Youth teams get the benefit of going on tour. We see this as both a cricket and personal development opportunity.
- County Age Group cricket at Youth and Senior levels (male & female) allows your club members to progress their game to representative level.
- Finally Club who are members get the benefits of the website, handbook, access to Board resources, access to our paid workforce, help and advice from the OCB or ECB and will get regular updates through our electronic newsletter facility.
- Forums - we have run forums for Club Chairman, Club Development forums and we are looking to do more in this area. Once we Incorporate we will have more time to do more of this. The aim is to get clubs to influence the direction of your local Cricket Board.
