The England and Wales Cricket Board is firmly and enthusiastically committed to ensuring that cricket provides a safe, friendly and enjoyable experience for all children. Safeguarding in Cricket is based upon the concept of providing an enjoyable cricket environment that is tailored to the needs and requirements of children. The Safeguarding Policy is not just to protect children in cricket, it is to introduce good practice, raise awareness and provide piece of mind. ECB has produced Safe Hands - http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/safeguarding-children-and-child-protection/download-safe-hands,450,BP.html - which can be downloaded from ecb.co.uk. This Safeguarding and Child Protection section contains full details of that Policy and other relevant documentation - plus advice and information on http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/safeguarding-children-and-child-protection/vetting-checks/ (more commonly known as Criminal Records Bureau checks). Vetting and Barring Scheme The new Vetting and Barring Scheme's first phase, which comes into operation on October 12, 2009, has attracted much attention in the media this week but will not have any impact on vetting processes currently in cricket. Changes in cricket may come when the next phase of the proposals to protect children and vulnerable people come into force in July 2010 - but even these proposals will be rolled out over a five year period. The ECB are members of the Sports Consultative Group for the scheme. Sports Specific guidance is currently being written by Government and the ECB expect to see this towards the end of autumn. Following the release of this guidance to the ECB, cricket specific information for clubs and leagues will be published. For more information:- |
